What are brokers and what is their role?

Learn about how the connection between you and the stock market is made possible.

Traditionally, stock brokers were individuals who would buy and sell stocks on their customers' behalf in exchange for a fee or commission. This was especially beneficial in the early days of the stock market when it was impossible for individual investors to do their own trading. The downside was that you would have to get your stock broker on the phone and then wait for him to process your order manually. The whole thing was a lot more complicated and required quite a bit more time and patience.

How brokers operate has changed drastically in the recent years. Investing in stocks today is cheap, fast, simple and easy, however this wasn't always the case.

With the advancements in technology investing has been made more accessible than ever. Today instead of contacting a stock broker via phone, you can access the stock market on your own all through a mobile app. You can now instantly access your assets, see your portfolio and make orders without contacting anyone. Information is also accessible at the click of a button. In our app for example, you will find all the financial data of whichever company you are interested in. The biggest advancement is that now you can even buy stocks commission free.

The broker is the "middleman" between you and the stock market. Today the broker's job has been made to function entirely in the background, making your connection to the financial markets fast and seamless.
